Description

Afternoon two-tank Key West dive trips offer divers the chance to explore two different dive sites on the pristine coral reef system of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, the only living coral reef in the Continental US. An expert dive boat captain with deep knowledge of the local waters will select the sites for each trip in order to provide the perfect conditions for good visibility and safe, successful diving. This helps to assure that each dive is a high-quality experience that lets you make the most of your time on the waters of beautiful Key West, Florida.

After a short run out on the Phoenix, a custom 50ft high-speed dive boat equipped with plenty of gear storage space, comfortable seating, a clean restroom, and a freshwater shower, our expert on-board dive team will help all divers get geared up and ready to enter the water. The dive masters will ensure that everyone has a dive buddy, and then get everyone in the party safely into the water.

Descending to intermediate recreational depths between about 30 to 75 feet, you will enter a magical world and be amazed at the diversity and complexity of the reef ecosystem. Hundreds of species of marine life will be seen on each dive, including all kinds of colorful tropical reef fish, eels, rays, turtles, and larger fish such as Barracuda, Grouper, Jack Crevalle, and Cobia. The reef diving off Key West is truly spectacular, and easily rivals many of the exotic locations found outside the US.

Use the Key West Scuba Diving website to conveniently book your Key West Dive trip, and come on out to explore the amazing living reef of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. You will log two unforgettable dives and have a great afternoon on the water.

Frequently Asked Questions

The answers provided below are based on answers previously given to divers by the Key West Scuba Diving customer support team.

Are there lockers available?

There are no lockers at the shop. However, there is a section on the boat that won’t get wet where you can leave your belongings, or you can ask the staff at check-in to keep them for you while you dive.

In 2 tank scuba dive do you have pool training before the dive? Also, do we need to know swimming to do the scuba dive?

For non-certified, we can only do the Key West Dive in a Day PADI® Discover Scuba Resort course, which is the best way for you to experience scuba diving without certification. You have to know basic swimming skills and the ability to float without the help of any floatation device. Pool training is in the morning, and reef diving is in the afternoon. Here’s our available schedule: https://www.keywestscubadiving.com/packages/key-west-dive-in-a-day-scuba-resort-course/

What is the minimum age to participate?

The minimum age is 10, and an adult must accompany the child.

I wondered which of your dives would be the most shallow?

On our afternoon trip, we dive two reef sites with tons of tropical fish. This shallow reef system is perfect for the beginner diver or the avid adventurer. These dives can be guided but most certified divers are comfortable with the relaxing 25-35-ft depths and hour-long dives at each location. The Captain chooses the actual reef location each day based on current conditions and with the goal of getting you to the best visibility and sea-state.

Can I join without diving?

Yes, you may book a snorkler/rider free ticket.

Can we join the tour and not scuba?

Yes, you may book the snorkeler/observer ticket.

Do you accept ACUC International Open Water Scuba Certification?

Yes

Are your afternoon dives (reef) going to different places every day?

While we aim to visit different reef locations, the final decision depends on visibility conditions. In some cases, dives may take place at the same reef to ensure the best experience.

Hi, may I ask if 6 year old kid is allowed to be the Snorkeler in your Key West Afternoon 2-Tank Reef SCUBA Dive? He will be accompanied by his father if necessary.

The minimum age requirement for this trip is 10 years old and must be accompanied by an adult. We have a more shallow area for snorkeling where kids 6 years old and above are welcome.

Is it required to hire a dive guide?

A dive guide is optional for the afternoon dive. We do buddy-up systems in the afternoon.

We are booked for multiple dives. Can leave our equipment (bcd/fins/regulators) with you overnight?

For your convenience, yes, you may leave your gears in our designated lockers.

What is included in the gear package?

The full gear package includes tanks and weights, bcd, regulator and gears (wetsuits included).

What is the maximum depth for this dive?

The maximum depth for this dive is 12 meters (40 feet)

How soon can I fly in an airplane after Scuba diving?

Participants in the Key West Afternoon 2-Tank Reef Scuba Dive cannot fly in an airplane within 24 hours of their dive.

The main concern with scuba diving and flying is decompression sickness (DCS). Your body needs adequate time during an ascent to off-gas excess nitrogen, or you can form bubbles in your bloodstream, possibly leading to DCS.

What is the weather cancellation policy?

If the Key West Afternoon 2-Tank Reef Scuba Dive must be canceled due to bad weather, and you cannot go on another day or time, you will be issued a refund by Key West Scuba Diving.
